Tokyo Olympics: Australia beat Netherlands in shootout to reach semi-finals

 



Both Australia and Germany have made it to the semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics after winning the quarterfinals of men's hockey. Both Australia and Germany will face each other in the semi-finals. Pool B runners-up Germany defeated Rio Olympics 2016 gold medalist Argentina 3-1 to make it to the semi-finals for the fifth time in a row. For Australia, Lukas Windfeder scored two goals from a penalty corner and Team Hertzbruch scored one goal. With whose help Australia made it to the semi-finals.

The semi-final match will be played between Germany and Australia on August 3, the remaining two quarter-final matches will be played by Belgium, Spain and India will face Britain.

Australia were challenged by the Netherlands in the second quarter final. Tom Wickham scored the first goal for Australia. The Netherlands made several strong attacks but were saved by Australian goalkeeper Andrew Charter. For the Netherlands, Mink van der Wierden scored on a penalty corner in the third quarter. Brand and Wickham once again converted a brilliant move into goal for Australia.

10 minutes before Hutter, Jeroen Hüterzberger of the Netherlands team converted a goal from a penalty corner to draw the match into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Australia goalkeeper Charter saved penalties from Hutterberger, Robert Campermann and Jonas de Zeus, while Black Gowers and Flynn Ozilvi scored. The Netherlands defeated Australia in a shootout in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in India.
