TOKYO Olympics On Sunday, a wonderful sight was seen, two players shared the gold medal in the high jump.

A wonderful sight was seen during the track and field event on 1st August 2021 during the ongoing Olympic Games in TOKYO. Qatar's Mutaz Issa Barshim and Italy's Gianmarco Tembri shared the gold medals during the men's high jump event. Both were tied during this match. When the jump-off was proposed in front of both, Barshim talked about sharing the gold medal in both. After getting approval, both the players shared the medal. Both the players became emotional after sharing the medal and both of them started celebrating by hugging.

In the high jump finals, 30-year-old Barshim and 29-year-old Tembri finished with 2.37m jumps. Both tried to jump 2.39 meters high but both were unsuccessful. Earlier both of them tried three times but failed all three times at the high jump of 2.39. When the Olympic official told both about the jump off that the one who wins in it will take the medal. At the same time, Barshim asked the Olympic official if both of them could get the medal, then the official said yes. After the official said yes, both the players hugged and decided that the medal would be shared.

The decision was a tearful one for Tember of Italy who broke his heel ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Tember said that I wanted to come back from the injury. Gold as much as my dream was in the Olympics which has come true today. Right before the 2016 Rio Olympics started, I was told that you could not participate, which made my journey longer.

Barshim told in the interview that I saw Tember and he also saw me and just in the blink of an eye, we understood each other that there is no need to compete further. Tember is a very close friend of mine. We both play together. It's like a dream. Barshim said that this is the spirit of the game. Barshim won the bronze at the 2012 London Games, which later changed to silver. After that he won silver medal in Rio Olympics. He has won the World Championship twice in a row in the year 2017 and 2019.

Earlier such a wonderful sight was seen at the 2016 Rio Olympics, during the two women's 100 meters freestyling swimming, both of them also shared the gold medal by Simone Manuel of America and Penny Oleksiak of Canada. Both of them took 52.90 seconds, setting an Olympic record.
